Because of Black Music IAM, is a two-day music festival to be held in Oakland Ca, in June during Black Music Month.
Due to recent shifts in the music industry to center more marginalized artists, we believe that now is the moment to center conversations about how Black artists and communities have shaped the music industry. By studying the past we can build new music industry infrastructures and frameworks to create a more sustainable and beneficial future for Black artists and communities. These conversations must take place both within and outside Black communities to gain a clear understanding of how Black music art forms have been and are still being appropriated and who benefits from these appropriations. Because of Black Music IAM will bring Oakland’s Black community together to dream, envision, and work towards a non-misogynistic, anti-racist, and anti-homophobic music industry that centers belonging, where everyone can thrive.
The festival will include an Artist Mixer, live music, spoken word, disscusion panels, and more... This festival is being put on with generous donations from Zoolabs and Zellerbach.
